22 Gombe graduates to get N20,000 for NDE jobs

The National Directorate of Employment has engaged no fewer than 22 graduates for a six-month job in Gombe State, under its special public works department.

Speaking at the orientation of the first phase of beneficiaries on Friday, the Director-General of the NDE, Abubakar Fikpo, said they would be paid N20,000 each as a stipend by the agency while on attachment to organisations.

Fikpo, who was represented by State Coordinator, Stephen Jediel, explained that the GAP initiative prioritised graduates with a bias for engineering, adding that they were expected to acquire the requisite experience which would boost their employability skills.

He said, “In the Graduate Attachment Programme, we attach beneficiaries to ministries, departments, and agencies relevant to their fields of study for six months on attachment. The aim is to put the theory they learnt into practice to learn on the job before we attach them, we normally counsel them.”

“This is just a transit job, we will be paying them N20,000 per month to cushion the effects of transportation and the companies will get graduates working for them.

“For now, we have 22 of them across MDAs in Gombe, two in each of the 11 local government areas.”
