Born Anotnio Cordon Ruiz on December 19, 1963, in Badajoz, Spain.

Career

Antonio Cordon began his career as a Physic education teacher. He became a football coordinator and coach at the University of Madrid :San Agustin”. He was also a trainer with second division Spanish teams.

He came through professionally as scout and analyst at Villareal in 1999, and later became the sports director of the Spanish club.

Cordon’s 17 years at Villareal saw him through with talented footballers acquisition which made hims one of the top sports managers in football. With Cordon’s brain work, Villareal got to the Semi-finals of the Champions League 2005-2006 season and Europa League 2010 -20111, quarter-finals of the champions league 2008-2009 season. They also won second place at the Championship 2007-2008.

He became the spots director at Monaco in 2016 and was able to win the Championship in France against Paris Saint-Germain for the first time in 17 years, with coach Leonardo Jardim. The club reached the Champions league semi-finals and French League Cup, while working with young, energetic and talented footballers such as Kylian Mbappe, Bakayoco, Bernardo Silva, and Fabinho.

Cordon acceped the proposal of the Chinese club Hope after one and a half years at Monaco. he assumed the position of a CEO, managing four teams, Granada, Tondela, Parma and Chongqing Liangjiang. His reign saw Granada promoted to the first division of the Spanish football.

Cordon assumed the post of a sports director for Ecuador’s national team in January 2020. He left in July same year and signed with Betis.

He was sports director of Betis for up to two and a half seasons and led them to the Europa league in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons. He also helped them win the Spanish Cup (Copa del Rey) in April 2022.

He joined Olympiacos as Sports director in June 2023.
