Tribunal Grants Saraki Bail On Self-Recognition, Adjourns Case To October 21

The Code of Conduct Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Tuesday adjourned the false declaration of assets case involving the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to October 21.

The Senate President is facing a 13-count charge bordering on alleged false declaration of assets.

Saraki, who appeared at the tribunal on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read out to him.

Counsel to both parties argued back and forth in a bid to swing the case in their favour.

Saraki’s lead counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN), had earlier tried to stop the Senate President from taking his pleas in the dock.

After Saraki pleaded not guilty to the charges, the tribunal granted him bail on self-recognition.

The prosecution did not oppose the tribunal’s decision to release Saraki on bail.

The matter was later adjourned to October 21 by the presiding judge.
