Five Abducted Wedding Guests Freed

Operatives of the Enugu State Police command have rescued five victims abducted on their way from a wedding in the state.

This came as the operatives  arrested four male suspects for alleged conspiracy, housebreaking and vandalism, and unlawful possession of firearms.

It was gathered that the victims were rescued in a joint operation conducted by the police at 9th Mile Division and troops of the Nigerian Army on August 7, at about 5pm.

They were rescued in a forest at Umulumgbe, Udi Local Government Area and reunited with their families, according to a statement by police spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe.

Ndukwe said the rescued victims were kidnapped on their way back from a traditional marriage at Ukehe community in Igbo-Etiti LGA, adding that an intense manhunt was ongoing to fish out the fleeing abductors.

He also disclosed that police special forces and operatives attached to Igbo-Eze North Police Division of the command, in synergy with Neighbourhood Watch Group personnel, on August 14, at about 1:10pm, raided suspected IPOB/ESN subversive criminal hideouts, at Nkpamte community in Igbo-Eze North LGA.

“One locally fabricated double-barrel pistol loaded with one live cartridge; components of a Pump Action gun, one Medion laptop, 11 assorted mobile phones and several phone charges were recovered.

“Intensive manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the hoodlums, who escaped on sighting the operatives,” he said.
