Stop abusing LASTMA uniform, agency warns entertainers

The management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has stated that the use of its uniforms, kits and other accessories by film and skit makers, is illegal.

A statement released by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the traffic management authority, Adebayo Taofiq, stated that its General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba, frowned at the demeaning manner in which movie and skit makers portrayed the organisation, while using its uniform without recourse. According to him, Section 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 criminalised such unauthorised use.

Oreagba also noted that the warning became imperative after the authority became aware of an actress wearing its uniform in a Yoruba film titled, ‘Gbogbo Lowo’, as well as other skits on social media.

The statement read in part, “Film or skit makers who portray LASTMA officers without applying for it, and (without) being duly issued a permit letter for such portrayals, should desist with immediate effect or face the full wrath of the law.”

He also implored the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners and other affiliated bodies to warn their members against flouting the law. He added that anyone caught using their uniform without a permit would be prosecuted.
