Police await autopsy report on slain Ogun senator’s aide

The Lagos State Police Command has said a post-mortem examination has been conducted on the corpse of Ogun senator’s aide, Mr Adeniyi Sanni, who was reportedly shot dead in Lagos on Saturday.

The state’s police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, told our correspondent on Tuesday, that the autopsy was conducted as a requirement of the law because of the nature of Sanni’s death.

Sanni was an aide to Senator Olamilekan Solomon representing Ogun West at the Senate.

Hundeyin said, “We are required by law to do an autopsy because of the nature of his death; it was a murder.

“So, his body has been sent to a general hospital for autopsy, autopsy has been done but the result is not yet out.

“We are expecting the result any moment from now, while we are still investigating to see if we can get on the suspects.”

The lifeless body of Sanni was found with gunshot wounds, dumped at Toyota bus stop in the Oshodi area of Lagos State on Saturday morning.

The spokesperson for the senator, Kayode Odunaro, in a statement released in Abuja said the deceased had earlier called his wife to request the details of his vehicle papers when he was stopped by security operatives at a checkpoint in the Berger area of Lagos.

According to him, the wife became troubled when he could no longer reach him on the phone after obliging his request.

He added that a passerby later called to inform her of the discovery of her husband’s body.

Hundeyin, on Sunday, told the News Agency of Nigeria that five bullet holes were found on the back of the deceased.
