Lagos trains procurement officers

The Lagos State Public Procurement Agency has organised a three-day technical capacity building programme for procurement officers in the state public service.

The training programme, which was held at the weekend at the Green Legacy Resort, Abeokuta, Ogun State, was organised in collaboration with Danik Ventures.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training programme, the Director General, Lagos PPA, Mr Fatai Onafowote, stressed that the agency had “no room for complacency and mediocrity among procurement officers in the public service of the state.”

He noted that the training was organised to “bridge the observed knowledge gaps, particularly in areas dealing with the principles and technicalities of public procurement in which procurement professionals are supposed to be versed, knowledgeable and up-to-date so as to boost their capacity for efficient service delivery.”

Onafowote said the objectives of the state government in its 2023 budget would be better achieved when procurement officers in the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies demonstrate capacity and competence in the discharge of their professional duties, hence the need for the continuous training of procurement officers in the state.

While expressing the agency’s appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu “for his unrelenting support to the agency,” Onafowote advised procurement officers in the state to rededicate themselves to duty and provide the required support to the state government to facilitate more effective and efficient service delivery to residents of the state.

Participants in the three-day capacity-building programme were drawn from MDAs of the state as well as from the Unified Local Government Service of the state.
