Man Utd confirm Rasmus Hojlund signing from Atalanta
Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund for a fee close to £72m.
Having already brought in Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter, manager Erik ten Hag has now made his third signing of the summer in 20-year-old Hojlund, who scored nine Serie A goals last season.
The former Sturm Graz forward is hoped to be United's long-term solution to their problem number nine position. Wout Weghorst was drafted in on loan in January while Anthony Martial remains injury-prone and unreliable.
Marcus Rashford was the Red Devils' leading scorer last season with 30 strikes in all competitions, 17 coming in the Premier League.
Italian clubs Juventus and Inter had both previously considered Hojlund as replacements for Dusan Vlahovic and Victor Osimhen respectively before Premier League clubs including Man Utd made their interest known.
The striker search has dominated United's summer, with other stars including Harry Kane, Osimhen, Lautaro Martinez and Randal Kolo-Muani also scouted by the Old Trafford side.
United had two bids rejected by Atalanta before eventually agreeing a fee with the Serie A side, who also received an offer from Ligue 1 holders Paris Saint-Germain for Denmark international Hojlund. El Bilal Toure was then brought in from Almeria, putting Hojlund in the clear to sign for United.
