LASG opens holiday STEAM classes in 308 schools
The Lagos State Ministry of Basic Education, on Thursday, said it had opened special Science, Technical, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics classes for secondary school students in the state to keep them engaged and well-grounded during the long holiday.
The Permanent Secretary of the newly-renamed Ministry of Basic Education, Mr Abayomi Abolaji, in a statement on Thursday, said the classes started in 308 secondary schools across the six education districts of the state on Monday, July 31, and will end on Friday, August 25.
Abolaji said the classes were organised to take advantage of the long vacation to encourage students on the need to be well-grounded in sciences in line with the vision of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He stressed that even though the STEAM holiday programme was not a full-fledged learning session, “it is purposely designed to channel students’ energy for productive activities, creativity and innovation which will be achieved through learning science subjects and exposure to skill acquisition.”
Meanwhile, the ministry also said it had begun the transfer into Junior Secondary School 2 and Senior Secondary School 1 classes for pupils who wish to change their schools due to relocation and other valid reasons.
The Permanent Secretary said, “Interested students are expected to forward their applications for transfer to the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic Education, and fulfil other requirements as may be required before 31st of August 2023.”
