Ministry to train youth in sustainable economy

The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development says as part of activities to mark this year’s International Youth Day, it will be training youths in sustainable economy.

Revealing plans for the weeklong event recently at Alausa, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, said, “This year’s IYD, which focuses on green transition, is aimed at economically sustainable growth and economy that is not dependent on fossil fuels and overconsumption of natural resources.”

Oke-Osanyintolu said 10 million youths in the state would have more opportunities and resources to maximise their skills and potentials as provided for in the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ Agenda with the addition of “Youth Engagement” and “Social Inclusion”.

The International Youth Day was first observed by the United Nations on August 12, 2000, to help draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youths with the aim of proffering solutions to them.
