Kano anti-graft agency arrests eight over diversion of N4b

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, on Saturday, confirmed that it had arrested eight suspects over the case of alleged diversion of N4 billion from Kano Agricultural Supply Company.

The Chairman of the Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimini Rimini Gado, disclosed that it had commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances that led to the diversion of the money.

Gado made the disclosure during a tour of the company’s warehouse facility in the state.

He alleged that the funds were transferred from the Kano Agricultural Supply Company to an association, registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission named Association of Compassionate Friends.

“The Association was meant to promote and take care of the living standard of the children of the less-privileged people in the society, but unfortunately it has been converted into a machine stealing public funds,” he said.

Also, the Anti-graft boss, alleged that the funds were drawn from the state government, as a grant to KASCO.

Meanwhile, he confirmed that eight suspects had been arrested in connection, with the alleged crime, adding that they were already making useful statements regarding what transpired.

“So far, we’ve recovered the sum of N15 million and have succeeded in blocking about N8 million.”

Rimin Gado further said that the Commission was not satisfied with how some transactions were being made between the companies and some banks, stressing that some bank managers may be invited to clear some issues.

However, he assured that the Commission would file the case at the appropriate court.

He appealed to the people of the state, especially civil servants to forward valid information that would lead to the recovery of looted government properties, assuring them of their safety.
