Help tackle Zamfara insecurity, Matawalle’s aide urges ex-IGP, ex-defence minister

An aide to the immediate past Zamfara State Governor, Anas Kaura, has urged former Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar, and former Minister of Defence, Gen. Aliyu Mohammed Gusau (retd.) to help address the insecurity bedeviling the state.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday in Abuja, Kaura stressed the importance of patriotism towards Zamfara State, especially regarding security matters, urging both Ali Gusau and the former governor to utilise their influence and resources to put an end to the state’s security problems.

Kidnapping for ransom is a major problem in Nigeria and a serious security problem in Zamfara State.

Concerned by the level of insecurity in some areas of the state, Governor Dauda Lawal last June called for extra military assistance to address the region’s security issues.

Speaking further Kaura alleged that former Nigerian Police Chief Mr Abubakar had earlier delivered a security report on the state’s insecurity to former governor Bello Matawalle, but alleged that it was ignored.

The former aide said that the report will help to promptly solve the state’s security concerns.

He noted that no one was slain or abducted during the prior governor’s nine months in office.

“Considering the state’s meager budget of N3 billion, doubts have been raised over the payment of salary for the 7,400 youngsters recruited by Bello Matawalle’s administration. The state confronts both economic and security issues because there aren’t many taxes or other revenue streams.

“The public has seen the previous governor’s attempts to cut off the connection between thieves and their informants. He has taken several actions to combat insecurity.

“In addition, more than 1,000 people have been slain and more than 500 others have been abducted in less than 60 days since Zamfara’s new administration took charge.

“Additionally, according to reports, the new Zamfara state administration fired nearly 10,000 people, underscoring their glaring failure. Many people who were born and raised in the state are now appreciating the previous governor, Matawalle, for paying wages on time and without any complaints, especially for the inclusion of young people.
