Lagos restructures MDAs for improved performance

The Lagos State Government has restructured the state’s ministries, departments and agencies, creating additional offices in some while renaming others.

The Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, in a circular no: CIR/HOS/’23/Vol.I/062 and dated July 25, said the move was necessitated by “the need to restructure government ministries, agencies and departments for improved performance and effective service delivery in the state.”

According to the circular, which was obtained by our correspondent late Wednesday, the affected MDAs include the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs; Office of Special Adviser on Education; and the Ministry of Education.

Others are the Office of Civic Engagement and the Central Internal Audit Department.

Muri-Okunola said that the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs was renamed as the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development. The Office of Rural Development was created under the ministry.

The Office of the Special Adviser on Education was renamed as the Ministry of Tertiary Education, while the Ministry of Education will now be called the Ministry of Basic Education.

The Head of Service also noted that the Political and Legislative Bureau had been reintroduced to the Office of Civic Engagement. Hence, the Office of Civic Engagement will now have two departments namely: the Office of Civic Engagement and Political and Legislative Bureau.

In addition, the Central Internal Audit Department was renamed as the Office Internal Audit, according to the circular.

Muri Okunola said the restructuring comes with redefined ministerial responsibilities for the affected MDAs as highlighted in the circular.
