Firm to provide free autism consultations, raise awareness

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, through its 2023 GTCO Autism conference will be educating Nigerians on autism and providing free consultations.

A statement by the organisation on Sunday explained that the conference, titled, ‘Empowering voices for autism,’ will hold in Lagos, on July 24 and 25, 2023.

It added that the conference, an offshoot of the Orange Ribbon Initiative will promote inclusivity and self-advocacy for persons on the autism spectrum, adding that it had grown to become a reference point for autism advocacy with neurodevelopmental disorders.

The conference will feature insightful presentations, panel sessions, workshops, creativity and arts, and discussions on autism.

It read, “Working with specialists and partner organisations within and outside Nigeria, the conference will feature lectures, panel discussions, and performances carefully prepared to showcase the diverse talents that exist in the families to connect and share ideas with subject-matter experts on different aspects of autism spectrum disorder including its nature and management.

“For Nigeria, the conference will be held at the Muson Centre, Lagos, while the free one-on-one clinic will open from July 26 to 29 at the Chapel of Light, Alausa, Ikeja. For Ghana, the activities will be with a workshop on August 1st at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Ghana, and consultations will last from August 2 to 5 at the same venue.”

Group Chief Executive Officer, Guaranty Trust Holding Plc, Mr. Segun Agbaje, said, “Society thrives when diverse individuals with their distinctive voices, perspectives, and cultures are welcomed and celebrated. It is therefore important that persons on the ASD spectrum are given the chance to succeed and empowered to experience life to its fullest.

“We are excited about the evolving insights on the management of autism spectrum disorder and are able to find their voice and embrace their uniqueness whilst contributing meaningfully to society.”

Head, Group Corporate Communications, GTCO Plc, Mrs Oyinade Adegite, stressed that the knowledge and skill from the conference will empower and re-position people with ASD for a better quality of living.
