10,000 pupils get booklets on child abuse

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has distributed over 10,000 booklets, titled ‘My Passport of Rights,’ to pupils in schools across the state.

The distribution of the booklets, which was targeted at “bringing awareness to the prevalence of child abuse as well as provide useful information and resources for survivors, was an initiative that encapsulates the required information about sexual and gender-based violence,” a statement said on Wednesday.

The Executive Secretary, DSVA, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said possessing the recently launched “child-friendly booklet,” the children “will be well-informed on issues of SGBV to ignite their development towards knowledge, protection, and even advocacy.”

She added that “with this, they are expected to pass the knowledge to others as they are ambassadors in the campaign against all forms of abuse in their homes, schools, and domains.”

The launch of ‘My Passport of Rights’ was held recently at the Lagos City Model College, Sabo Yaba with over 300 students from various schools in attendance.

“The innovative booklet further infuses knowledge into children on their rights in the state,” the statement said.

Vivour-Adeniyi further stressed that the booklet, which is strictly not to be sold, is available at the agency.

“It is a must-read for anyone who cares about the welfare of children and wants to make a difference in their lives as it is expected to inspire actions,” she added.
