Last batch of Lagos Hajj pilgrims returns today

The last and final batch of the Lagos State pilgrims that participated in the 2023 Hajj in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will arrive in Lagos today (Thursday).

The Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Taofeek Lawal, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the flight conveying the pilgrims was scheduled to depart King AbdulAzeez International Airport, Jeddah at 10am Saudi Arabian time.

Lawal quoted the Amir-ul-Hajj, Anofiu Elegushi, as saying: “The 11th and final batch, which consists of about 380 pilgrims, would arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja on board a Flynas airline XY 7678.”

The PUNCH reported that the return journey of Lagos pilgrims began on July 10 with the arrival of the first batch of 380 pilgrims via a ‘special flight’.

The first batch, which comprised the elderly ones and those with medical challenges, returned to Lagos via a Flynas airline XY 7656.

Speaking on the return of the final batch, Amir-ul-Hajj stressed that the return journey, which was initially planned to end by July 22, was backdated to July 20.
