Community Senior High School, Lekki, Lagos, has emerged winner of the 2023 Tolaram Science Challenge organised by the Lagos Free Zone Company.

The company, in a statement on Wednesday, said Community Senior High School beat Magbon Alade Senior Grammar School, Lagos to the prize at the grand finale of the competition.

According to the statement, the Tolaram Science Challenge is an annual science-based competition for schools located within the Ibeju-Lekki axis of Lagos, where the Free Zone is situated.

It is aimed at developing and promoting science education amongst the students within the area.

According to the statement, 16 secondary schools participated in this year’s edition of the competition, with each school represented by a total of six students.

“The students were tested in five core subjects, which are Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and General Knowledge.

“At the end of the weeklong competition, Community High School, Akodo, finished third, while Eagle’s Vision International School, Orofun, came fourth,” the statement said.

It revealed that top three students in the competition were rewarded with cash prizes and other consolatory prizes.

Also, the best students from the 16 participating schools were awarded the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination scholarship for their outstanding performances.

The Chief Executive Officer, Lagos Free Zone, Dinesh Rathi, said one of the social impacts of the competition was the emergence of one of the participants of the 2016 and 2017 editions, Kabiru Olakunle, as the best-graduating student from the School of Transport & Logistics at the 26th Convocation Ceremony of Lagos State University held recently.
