PDP to immortalise Ogbulafor

The Peoples Democratic Party has pledged to preserve the legacies of its former National Chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor who died on October 6, 2022.

This was disclosed by the Acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagun on Wednesday at a valedictory session in honour of the deceased politician.

Damagun who described Ogbulafor as a great leader and astute politician added that the former PDP chairman was bold enough to predict that the party would govern Nigeria for 60 years because the PDP had “Strong political structures” and provided good governance for the country.

He said, “The party will find a place to immortalise him. He deserves it because he has worked for it.

“He has made his mark in this party. The testimonies from our leaders show that he lived a fulfilled life. His exit may be a great loss to the family but he has left a great legacy.”

On his part, PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu described Ogbulafor as a humble leader who left his mark on the political development of the country.

“Heaven is rejoicing. What we should be celebrating is the legacy he left behind. His demise is a very great loss to the party, to Abia State, and to Nigeria,” he said.

Also speaking, ex-National Chairman of the party, Okwesilieze Nwodo praised the late Ogbulafor for his charitable works, particularly to indigent students of various schools across the country.

“His philanthropy and kind-heartedness were succour for all the indigent students in our schools.

“He was the first person to be a National Secretary and National Chairman of PDP. If he had not done well, he would not have been elevated to the chairmanship position. He was a contented person.

“He was the brain behind the 12-floor National Secretariat of the party and organised the launching and building of the massive edifice that has remained that way since he left office,” he stated.

Former Kaduna State Governor and ex-Caretaker National Chairman of the party, Ahmed Makarfi said, “We are celebrating the transition of someone who lived well.

“I can’t recall any time I saw him angry no matter how much provoked. He was a peacemaker. Even when he was faced with trumped-up charges, he remained calm. He was a detribalised Nigerian,” he said.

For former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Ogbulafor was “A selfless, humble and a visionary leader. He was a man of courage, candour, consistency, and compassion.

“He fought for what he believed in and God vindicated him.”

Another ex-PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus also spoke highly of Ogbulafor saying, “He was an embodiment of humility and honesty, a quality that present leaders of the country lack. He was an unassuming leader who remained calm and smiling even in the midst of provocation. He was a man of honour”.

Abubakar Kawu Baraje, Former National Secretary, Abubakar Baraje described the deceased as a man of ideas.

“He never ran out of ideas and his ideas were always apt and precise. He was a leader that had a lot of empathy for his colleagues and staff of the Secretariat. He was humble to a fault.

“He had an unquantifiable passion for PDP. During his tenure, he ensured that party came first”.

Thanking PDP faithful on behalf of the family, the first son of the deceased Uchenna Ogbulafor pledged on behalf of his siblings to live by the values they were taught by their late father.

Ogbulafor 73, was the former National Secretary of PDP, 2001 -2005 and former National Chairman 2008 – 2010.

His body arrived in Nigeria from Canada on Wednesday and would be committed to mother earth on Friday

Some of the dignitaries at the events included former Board of Trustees Chairman of the PDP, Walid Jibrin, and ex-National Woman Leader, Mariam Waziri, among others.
