EPL: Fantastic player – Wayne Rooney hails Man United’s new recruit

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has reacted to the return of Jonny Evans to the club.

According to him, the move by the ‘fantastic player’ is a great one, adding that he is pleased to see his former team-mate back at Old Trafford.

Evans signed a short-term deal with Erik Ten Hag’s side on Tuesday and will travel with the club on their pre-season tour.

The Northern Ireland international had been training with Manchester United’s U21s after he left Leicester City after the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship.

Speaking ahead of the MLS All-Stars game against Arsenal on Thursday, the former United striker hailed Evans on his return to the Theatre of Dreams

“I’ve literally just seen it. Dripped through before coming in,’ Rooney said.

“Yeah, I think Jonny is a fantastic player.

“I’m assuming he’s signed as cover and [in case] there are any injuries to the centre-backs that are starting.”
