Ogun security agents battle kidnappers, rescue woman

Men of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, otherwise known as So-Safe Corps, have rescued a businesswoman kidnapped last Thursday.

A 32-year-old suspect, Tunde Salami, was arrested in connection with the incident.

Sunday PUNCH gathered that the victim was kidnapped while she was going home from a market in Ijebu-Ode.

The Commander of the corps, Soji Ganzallo, stated these in a release on Saturday by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the agency, Moruf Yusuf.

The statement said operatives attached to the Ijebu zonal command swung into action and got one of the kidnappers arrested after a gun duel between the corps and the criminals.

The kidnappers reportedly fled the scene and abandoned the victim, but one of them was not so lucky, as he was arrested.

“The kidnappers had collected the victim’s phone, her gold jewellery, the N100,000 in her possession and one ATM card before they drove her away with her car.

“The team could not catch up with them because of logistics issue. The team did not relent until they were informed of strange footprints on farmland at Oke-Ako community in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.

“The commander then instructed the Isiwo/Itamapako Divisional Officer of the corps, SC Aderibigbe M.O., to mobilise and lead his special squad to deal with the suspected kidnappers decisively.

“The kidnappers were tracked down after a rigorous search for them as they tried to move the victim to a new location.

“There was a gun duel between the suspects and the corps before the criminals bowed to the superior response of the corps, while one of the kidnappers, who is 32 years old, named Tunde Salami, a resident of Ibadan, Oyo State, was captured alive and the kidnap victim was rescued unhurt. The rescued victim was traumatised but, not harmed. One locally-made pistol was recovered from the suspect.”
