Okonjo-Iweala, Oye talk trade in Geneva

The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; and the President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, Dele Oye, met at the recently concluded World Chambers Congress, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland, between June 21 and 23, 2023.

The two high profile personalities were said to be the only Nigerian representatives at the event.

In a statement sent to Society Plus, they were said to have talked about trade expansion and economic prosperity for Nigeria, as well as exploring areas of partnership to foster mutually beneficial trade opportunities and advance the growth of the country’s private sector.

Oye said, “The WTO and NACCIMA are working on a Memorandum of Understanding that will encompass a wide range of initiatives, including trade promotion, facilitating access to global markets for Nigerian businesses, and enhancing export capabilities to bolster economic growth and diversification. This is in line with the vision and positive indication from the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government.

“We will be leveraging our respective strengths and resources to unlock new avenues of trade facilitation, expanding market access, and enhancing Nigeria’s position as a prominent player in the global marketplace.”

The NACCIMA added that with its deep understanding of local market dynamics and its commitment to promoting business excellence, the association would continue to explore opportunities and strengthen collaborations to shape trade policies, foster dialogue, and create opportunities for Nigerian enterprises to thrive.

He also noted that he was confident of the possibilities and opportunities that the partnership promised, maintaining that they would yield tangible and transformative results for the Nigerian economy.
