Don’t tamper with Kano emirates, APC chieftain warns Yusuf

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kano, Alhaji Alhassan Yaryasa, has called on President Bola Tinubu to advise Governor Abba Yusuf to abandon any plan to tamper with the Kano emirates.

Yaryasa warned that dissolution of the Kano emirates by the governor “will not augur well for the state.”

In addition, the APC chieftain said the President should prevail on the Kano governor to stop his demolition spree in the state.

Yaryasa, who is a former Coordinator, Tinubu Camping Organisation for Kano South, made the call in an interview with The PUNCH in Kano on Tuesday.

He said the call was necessary to prevent the situation from degenerating, describing the ongoing demolitions by the Yusuf government as personal vendetta against the immediate-past Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

According to Yaryasa, the demolition spree by the Yusuf-led New Nigeria People’s Party government is nothing but an attempt to destroy Ganduje’s legacies.

“If the government likes, let it demolish flyovers Ganduje built or the uncompleted projects he (Ganduje) inherited from Kwankwaso and completed them.We can’t continue to waste public funds by demolition of places built with billions of naira just because the new government is not on good terms with the former,” he said.

He called on President Tinubu to advise Yusuf against any attempt to tamper with the newly created emirates saying any attempt to dissolve the new emirate would be greeted with stiffer resistance from the masses.

“President Tinubu should caution Governor Abba Yusuf against this demolition spree because of its negative economic impact on the state.

“Tinubu should also advise the governor against his planned dissolution of the new emirates because it will not augur well for the state,” he said.

He also called on the National Assembly to make a law that would prevent politicians, especially governors, from meddling in the affairs of traditional institutions in the country.

A viral video in May had captured Yusuf’s political leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as sying that the governor would review the dethronement and balkanisation of the Kano emirate by the Ganduje administration.

Recall that Ganduje, in 2019, signed a law spliting the Kano Emirate into five through the creation of four new ones.

Then Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi 11, was also dethroned by the Ganduje administration.

Kwankwaso, in the said video, was captured saying, “We tried not to intervene in the issue of bringing or removing any Emir, but now, an opportunity has come. Those who were given this opportunity will sit down and see to the issues. They will look at what they are expected to do.

“Besides the Emir, even the emirate has been divided into five places. All these need to be studied. Usually, a leader inherits good, bad, and issues that are hard to reconcile.”
