Bandits abduct six, shoot one in Kaduna

Bandits invaded Ungwan Maaji, new Millennium City, in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna and kidnapped no fewer than six residents.

It was gathered that during the incident which occurred on Friday night, the attackers shot and injured a resident.

A source in the area said the hoodlums attacked several houses before taking away the residents to an unknown destination.

He said the attackers, according to the survivors, stormed the area at about 9:10pm and attacked a house close to Chaha Eye Hospital where they abducted a housewife and her house help.

He added that they (bandits) attacked another house on the same street where they abducted four other persons.

According to him, although two other people who were sitting outside their house were also kidnapped, they later escaped while they were being taken away through a stream at the back of the community.

One of the escapees, who wanted his identity concealed, said the kidnappers arrived in the area at about 8pm and abducted him from a mosque where he led the Muslim prayers.

He said, “I was picked up from the Mosque. Then they broke into two other houses and picked six people.

“While they were breaking into the second house, I, another neighbour and others were asked to lie down on the floor.

“After the bandits broke into the second house and picked four people, we became eight and they started leading us out of the community. On getting to the stream at the far end of the community, the two of us picked outside and escaped while they were attempting to make us cross the stream.

“The bandits were small boys. I think the eldest of them should not be more than 20 years old.”

There was no official statement either from the state government or the state police command.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Jalige, said he would contact the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area (Millennium City) and brief newsmen later but as of the time of filing this report, Jalige had yet to do so.
