Lagos moves to curb youth restiveness

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a technical working group for the review of its youth policy in its bid to eradicate youth restiveness in the state and harness the potential of its young population.

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, at the unveiling of the TWG for the review of the Lagos State Youth Policy on Wednesday in Ikeja, according to a statement by the ministry.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the state could not afford to fold its hands and watch the potential of its youths, which make up 60 per cent of the state’s population, being wasted by vices prevalent among the young ones.

The statement quoted Oke-Osanyintolu as stating that the aim of the review of the youth policy was to ensure that the current document was in tandem with the present-day realities and broader implementation of youth development services.

She said the review process, being supported by Youth Alive Foundation, would concentrate on five pillars and other new concepts considering the peculiarities of the state.

“The five strategic thrusts of the youth policy are a productive workforce and sustainable economic engagement of youth; health and health–promoting lifestyle; participation, inclusiveness and equitable opportunities for youths; promotive and protective environment for youth development, and partnership building and effective collaboration,” the statement said.

The last review of the Lagos State Youth Policy was done in October 2016.
