Community seeks reinstatement of monarch deposed by El-Rufai

Indigenes of Arak Chiefdom in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Wednesday, protested against the deposition of their traditional ruler, His Highness Brig. Gen. Iliya Yammah (retd.), by former governor Nasir El-Rufai, describing the action as “a witch-hunt which was clad in false allegations.”

While congratulating Dr Uba Sani on his victory at the polls and inauguration as the state’s new governor, the community pleaded with him to “take a look at the issue and reinstate the deposed traditional ruler.”

The acting President of Numana Community Development Organisation, Ahmed Manzo, in a statement on Wednesday, noted that the El-Rufai administration removed the monarch on the claim that he gave “an unacceptable response to a query by the state government over an unauthorised appointment of four district heads and his non-residence within his domain.”

Manzo said, “We, therefore, appeal to the Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Uba Sani, whom we have known over time to be fair-minded, to revisit the issue in an effort to unravel the truth in order to reinstate our royal father.”

Contrary to the allegation by the state, the community maintained that the traditional ruler “did not, at any time, appoint four district heads in Arak Chiefdom.”

On the allegation that the monarch did not reside within his domain, the community explained that: “Prior to his installations on August 25, 2018, His Highness had a medical procedure in the USA in June 2018. After his discharge, he was referred to a hospital in Abuja for rehabilitation and post-surgery management, which was done three times a week.
