Kano, Delta Assemblies, six others elect Speakers

The lawmaker representing Rogo Constituency , Jibril Falgore, was on Tuesday elected the Speaker of the 10th Kano State House of Assembly.

Falgore, who is of the New Nigeria People’s Party, was nominated by Lawal Hussaini of Dala Constituency, while Musa Kachako, representing Takai constituency, seconded the nomination.

The lawmaker representing Rimin Gado constituency, Muhammad Butu, of emerged as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.

In Sokoto State, the member representing Bodinga North, Tukur Bala, was elected the Speaker of state Assembly.

The House, which consists of 30 members with 20 from the All Progressive Congress and 10 from the Peoples Democratic Party, also elected Kabiru Ibrahim, from Kware constituency in the Kware Local Government Area, as Deputy Speaker.

Bala and Ibrahim were elected unopposed during the inauguration of the 10th Sokoto Assembly on Tuesday.

In Enugu State, the Labour Party-dominated 8th House of Assembly elected the Peoples Democratic Party member representing Udi North, Uche Ugwu, as Speaker of the House.

Fourteen of the 24-member House of Assembly has 14 Labour Party lawmakers, and 10 PDP members.

Ugwu, who is the immediate-past Deputy Speaker of the House, was nominated by Iloabuchi Aniagu of Nkanu West state constituency.

The nomination was seconded by Chukwudi Nwankwo, the member representing Awgu South.

Also, Ezenta Ezeani of Igboetiti West constituency emerged as the Enugu House of Assembly Deputy Speaker following his nomination by Jane Eneh of Awgu North constituency.

In Adamawa State, the lawmaker representing Hong constituency, Barthiya Wesley emerged as the Speaker of the 8th Assembly.

Wesley was elected unopposed, becoming the first person with disability to be elected as Speaker of a legislature in Nigeria.

Buba Jijiwa of Jada Mbulo constituency emerged the Deputy Speaker unopposed.

In Delta State, the lawmaker representing Warri South-West constituency, Emomotimi Guwor, emerhed state Assemnly Speaker.

Arthur Akpowhowho, a first-timer at the Assembly, representing Ethiope East constituency, was elected the Deputy Speaker of the House.

In Plateau State, 55-year-old Moses Sule emerged as the Speaker of the state House of Assembly.

Sule, who represents Mikang constituency, is a first-term lawmaker on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Fom Gwottson of Jos South constituency emerged Deputy Speaker of the House.

In Kwara State, 38-year-old Yakubu Danladi-Salihu was re-elected as the Kwara Assembly Speaker.

This followed a motion for his nomination moved by Halidu Danbaba representing Kaiama/Wajibe and seconded by Arinola Lawal representing Ilorin East during Tuesday’s inauguration plenary.

Danladi-Salihu was the Speaker of the 9th Assembly and was unanimously re-elected by the House on Tuesday.

In the same development, Ojo Oyebode, representing Oke-Ogun, was also elected unopposed as the Kwara Assembly Deputy Speaker.

Similarly, Nasir Daura, on Tuesday, was sworn in as Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly.

This followed the proclamation of the 8th House of Assembly by Governor Dikko Radda.

The clerk of the House, Lawal Dansuleiman, performed the task on behalf of the governor.

The member representing Safana constituency, Abduljalal Runka, was also sworn in as the House Deputy Speaker.

Dansuleiman, who swore in the principal officers of the House, explained that the swearing-in followed consensus arrangements reached by the lawmakers at a meeting on Monday on the choice of the House Speaker and other principal officers.
