French outlet L'Equipe first reported on Tuesday afternoon that the Argentine forward had skipped a training session in order to visit the Middle East.

Messi is under contract with the Saudi Arabia tourist board and had previously cancelled on two previous trips to the country due to PSG commitments.

He is said to have missed Monday's training session to head to Saudi Arabia having failed to convince head coach Christophe Galtier to amend their schedule. PSG cancelled the first team's day off following their horrendous 3-1 defeat at home to Lorient on Sunday.

And RMC Sport now claim that PSG have taken the decision to suspend Messi for two weeks for this discretion - the first time he has ever been sanctioned by a club in such a manner.

There are two games coming over the horizon for PSG which Messi will now miss.

The French champions travel to Troyes on Sunday before facing Ajaccio next Saturday.

PSG are five points clear of rivals Marseille at the top of Ligue 1 with only five games to go.
