Premier League clubs to remove gambling sponsors from front of shirts

The Premier League have confirmed clubs have voluntarily agreed to remove gambling sponsors from the front of their matchday shirts from the start of the 2025/26 season.

Eight clubs in the division have main shirt sponsorship deals with gambling firms, with West Ham and Everton boasting the most-lucrative agreements at an estimated £10m per campaign.

Fulham, Bournemouth, Brentford, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Southampton also have agreements with gambling companies, with all agreements understood to run until 2025 at the latest.

Those eight teams will now have to find new main shirt sponsors before the start of the 2025/26 season as the Premier League have confirmed a league-wide agreement to do away with gambling sponsorships on the front of shirts.

"Premier League clubs have today collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts, becoming the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising," a statement read.

"The announcement follows an extensive consultation involving the League, its clubs and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as part of the Government’s ongoing review of current gambling legislation.

"The Premier League is also working with other sports on the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship."

"To assist clubs with their transition away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship, the collective agreement will begin at the end of the 2025/26 season."

It has previously been reported that clubs will still be permitted to use gambling companies for sleeve sponsorship deals as a compromise.
