Clear B’Haram remnants, CDS tells troops

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, says the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is happy with the troops’ performance in the fight against insurgents in the North-East.

According to him, commanders in the theatre are perfecting plans for more onslaughts on remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP in the region.

Irabor stated this on Thursday in Maiduguri while addressing troops at the headquarters of the Joint Task Force, North-East Operation Hadin Kai.

He said, “The Commander-in-Chief is happy with you and has asked me to relay to you to keep up the standard and momentum that you are displaying in the North-East operation.

“You must ensure that the criminals, wherever they are hiding, you smoke them out. I know that you will do that, very soon we will be back to celebrate together,” Irabor said.

The CDS also lauded the successes being recorded by the troops, saying it was based on their sense of patriotism and resilience.

He said the troops’ performance showed the true manifestation of the training they received.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the CDS also held a meeting with the Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali, GOC 7 Division, Maj. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, and other operational commanders.

He also interacted with wounded soldiers at the military hospital in Maimalari Cantonment.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen, Faruk Yahaya, is set to meet with General Officers Commanding, field commanders, and other senior officers in the service.

He would be meeting with them at a conference to be held between April 3 and 6, 2023.

According to a statement by the Director Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, on Thursday, strategies being adopted at the various theatres of operation would be reviewed.

He added that far-reaching decisions that would enable the service to address the multifaceted security challenges confronting the country would be discussed.

Onyema said, “On the first day of the Conference, the COAS will present 14 new Toyota Hilux vehicles to Army Warrant Officers who have attained the peak of their soldiering career. Similarly, the COAS will commission the newly constructed Faruk Yahaya Historical Park located at Asokoro Abuja. The conference will also showcase some research and development efforts of the NA in an exhibition.”

The statement added that “The Nigerian Army is set to hold the Chief of Army Staff First Quarter Conference 2023. The Conference is expected to commence on the 3rd and last till the 6th April 2023.

“Customarily, the COAS Conference will offer an avenue for the reappraisal of the administrative affairs of the Nigerian Army as well as evaluation and comprehensive review of ongoing operational engagements of the NA in all theatres of operations across the country, within the first quarter of the year. This will provide the NA an in-depth insight to enable far-reaching decisions towards achieving its set objective of addressing the multifaceted security challenges confronting the country.

“The conference will also create an opportunity for the COAS to have a face-to-face interaction with General Officers Commanding, field commanders, and other senior officers to provide possible guidance on enhancing NA operations and other activities.
