There had been rumours that the Labour Party pegged its governorship form for Imo state at N25 million and the development has been attracting mixed reactions.

However, taking to his Twitter page on Monday, Okonkwo said the public should be rest assured Labour Party won’t go that way.

The actor cum politician said the alleged N25m is exorbitant and will not be encouraged because a new Nigeria will not be possible with such a development.

He added that the party would fina an acceptable nomination fee for the people of Nigeria as competent leadership is beter than encouraging money bags to grab power.

He wrote: “It has been brought to our notice that Labour Party is charging N25m as nomination fee for gubernatorial aspirants. The general public should be rest assured that Labour Party will not go the way of the old order.

“The Party’s Constitution frowns at any action that will constitute a hindrance to the participation of any Nigerian in governance at any level.

“N25m is exorbitant and will not be encouraged. Article 8(h) of Labour Party Constitution states, “To broaden participation in governance at all levels by ensuring that the costs of theelectoral process do not constitute hindrance to any Nigerian”.

“A new Nigeria is possible and we must continue in that trajectory.

“The Party will find an acceptable nomination fee for the people of Nigeria. We prefer honest and competent leadership to money bags.

“We moovee!!”
