Groups advocate renewed interest in tree planting

The Executive Director of the Green to Abundance Development and Empowerment Foundation, Mr Olubunmi Olatiilu, has called for renewed interest in the protection and regeneration of forest resources in the country.

Olatilu, who described the forest as the hope of humanity, in view of the numerous importance of trees to life in areas including revenue, protection, food and herbs, said the future could only be guaranteed if everybody keeps, preserve and sustain the health of the environment.

Speaking during a sensitisation programme for the school children on forest preservation with the theme ‘Forests and Sustainable Cities’ organised by GADEF in conjunction with the Global Green Environmental Network to mark International Day of Forests in Ado Ekiti, he lamented the depletion of the forests.

He claimed the neglect of forests in the country was worrisome and harped on the need to regenerate the forests.

He added, “Everyone should cultivate the habit of conserving the environment through tree planting and seeing that the trees are nurtured for these purposes.”
