Chelsea manager Graham Potter has ruled Mason Mount out of international duty just days after he was called up to the squad.

Mount has been nursing an injury which has kept him out of Chelsea's last three games in all competitions, but he was still called up to the latest England squad by Gareth Southgate, who confirmed that Blues teammate Raheem Sterling would miss out due to his own fitness problems.

Southgate's decision to call Mount up to the squad suggested the 24-year-old had overcome his pelvic problem, but Potter has now claimed otherwise.

"Raheem has a problem with his hamstring. It's not too serious but he'll miss the game at the weekend and the international trip," said Potter ahead of Saturday's home game against Everton.

"It's the same with Mason. He'll miss the England camp as well."

Southgate will now be given the option to call up a replacement for Mount ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine later this month.

At club level, Mount's long-term future remains up in the air. His contract is set to expire in 2024 and Chelsea are prepared to authorise a sale this summer if he does not agree to an extension.

Blues officials have not yet given up hope of retaining Mount, and 90min understands the academy graduate would prefer to stay at Stamford Bridge, but the Premier League's elite are all keeping a very close eye on proceedings.
