NGOs Remain Suspended In Adamawa – Gov Fintiri

Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has insisted that activities of non-governmental organisations in the state remain suspended, at least till the end of the general elections, warning that anyone found wanting would be treated as a saboteur and prosecuted.

The governor gave the order on Wednesday, stressing that dealings of all local and international NGOs operating in the state remain restricted until after the March 18th Governorship and State Assembly elections.

A statement by his Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, explained that the governor, who had earlier directed the restriction during a statewide broadcast, maintains his conviction that the involvement of some of the NGOs in politics instead of their core responsibility of humanitarian assistance necessitates the move to suspend their activities while voting lasts, to ensure sanity.

“For the avoidance of doubt, your operation remain restricted across the 21 Local Government Councils of Adamawa State until the elections are completed and declared; The Government will continue to monitor your activities to restore sanity and halt the disregard for the rules of engagement,” Fintiri said.

He added that relevant enforcement agencies would continue to assert their authority, as they had been directed to ensure compliance.

“Anybody found wanting will be treated as a saboteur and made to face the full wrath of the Law,” the Governor said.
