Manchester United have provided a hilarious response on social media to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's weird rant featuring Julia Roberts.

The Catalonian coach was in a strange mood following his side's 7-0 win against RB Leipzig in the second leg of their Champions League.

Guardiola stressed that he would always consider himself a failure in the Champions League as he was previously unable to get iconic actress Roberts to come and watch a game at the Etihad Stadium, instead heading across town to Old Trafford.

"I am a failure in the Champions League. If I win the Champions League three times in a row I will be a failure," Guardiola said.

"I have three idols in my life. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Julia Roberts. These are my three idols.

"Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester - not in the 90s when Sir Alex [Ferguson] was winning titles and titles and titles. She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right?

"And she went to visit Man Utd. She didn't come to see us. That's why even if I win the Champions League it will not compare for the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn't come to see us.

"Even if I win the Champions League it will not compare to this disappointment I had."

His comments have, understandably, caught the attention of rivals United.

On Wednesday morning, their social media manager saw a great opportunity to rub salt into Guardiola's wounds, posting pictures of Roberts' trip to Old Trafford from a few years ago.

Which Man Utd game did Julia Roberts attend?

If it's any consolation to Guardiola, United were far from impressive on Roberts' trip to watch them back in November 2016.

Jose Mourinho's side drew 1-1 with West Ham. Diafra Sakho gave the visitors the lead after just two minutes, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic rescuing a point for the hosts.

West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph won the Player of the Match award. A truly vintage game in front of such an esteemed guest.
