BIVAS: Atiku-Okowa legal team meets over Appeal Court ruling
The legal team of the Atiku-Okowa -led Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council is meeting to review the Appeal Court ruling granting the Independent National Electoral Commission permission to reconfigure the BIVAS machine.
A Spokesman of the Campaign who is also a lawyer, Mr. Daniel Bwala, confirmed the review meeting over the telephone late on Wednesday.
He told Vanguard over the telephone, “The legal team of the campaign is currently meeting to study the ruling.”
The PDP had opposed INEC’s application to reconfigure the BIVAS machine to enable it to conduct Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections on the grounds that doing so could jeopardize its case.
According to the opposition party, granting INEC’s prayers was likely to give the election management body a window to tinker with crucial evidence contained in the device.
However, counsel to INEC had argued that sensitive data contained in the device was intact and would not in any way be compromised during the reconfiguration.
Attempts to get an official response to the Appeal Court ruling from the Labour Party were futile as at the time of filing this report.
However, a top-ranking party official who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the issue said, “It is now really an issue for our lawyers. We just have to trust our lawyers to know how to respond.
“We also are left with no choice than to give our judiciary the benefit of the doubt believing that our justices will do what is right.” End
