LP kicks as PDP’s Katung wins Kaduna South senatorial seat

Mr Sunday Katung of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared the winner of the Feb. 25 elections for Kaduna South Senatorial district.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Abdullahi Dalhatu, who declared the result in Kafanchan on Monday, said Katung polled 138, 246 votes, to defeat his closest rival Mr Ayuba Michael of the Labour Party, who got 101, 479 votes.

Dalhatu added that All Progressives Congress candidate, Bulus Audu, came third with 77,753 votes, while Rufai Ahmed of the New Nigeria People’s Party scored 8, 140 votes.

He explained that a total of 337, 953 voters were accredited, out of which 335, 520 cast their votes.

“Sunday Katung of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement of the law by scoring the highest votes, is hereby declared the winner,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has called for cancellation of the results in six of the eight Local Government Areas that make up the senatorial district.

Ayuba Michael, the party’s candidate in the election, made the call at a press conference in Kafanchan.

Auta alleged that the election in the district was characterized by irregularities such as non use of the BVAs in many polling units, over voting, manipulation of results on form EC8A11.

Acording to him, others include intimidation of the party’s agents and voters, and uploading of results to INEC server while voting was still in progress.

He added that the party had sufficient evidence to back up it’s claims.
