He appeared in Sink The Bismark and Tunes of Glory, as well as several television shows, including Dixon of Dock Green, on which he spent seven years in the late 1960s and early 1970s. After moving to Folkestone with his family in 1970, he worked in local rep before returning to London in the late 1970s and joining The National Theatre.
