Labour Leaders Suspended In Osun For Forgering The Signature Of A Former Accountant General

Two labour leaders who are key members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria in Osun State and allegedly involved in a multi-million naira fraud in the state have been suspended by the state government.



The officers were suspended indefinitely by the State Civil Service Commission at its plenary meeting of Wednesday, April 29, 2015 until investigation into the matter is concluded.



The duo were directed to submit all materials in their possession to the accountant general before proceeding on the suspension.



The affected officers, who were at the period the fraud was allegedly perpetrated, leaders of their union, were apart from being suspended indefinitely from service, also told to stay off all union matters.



Letters informing the affected officers, it was gathered, had already been sent to them through appropriate quarters.



In the separate letters written to the affected officers with ref no: C621/83 and ref no: C621/82 both dated April 30, 2015 and signed by K.O. Adesina, permanent secretary, State of Osun Civil Service Commission, they were alleged of falsification of government documents used to procure a loan of N372,910,000.00 from a second generation bank on behalf of their union members.

Also, in other documents detailing what transpired and obtained by newsmen, the affected officials were accused of falsifying documents purportedly signed by Mr G. A. Babatunde, the former accountant general of the state, requesting for a credit facility from the bank.



Also, the two men were alleged to have forged signatures of Messrs K. Oni and P. O. Awokojo, director of Finance and Account and director of Administration and Establishment of Osun State Universal Basic Education respectively, as well as signatures of R. M. Ajayi and J. O. Abolade, director of Finance and Account and director of Administration and Establishment respectively in the state Ministry of Education purportedly for letters of consent and irrevocable domiciliation of account.



Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said the affected officers did not appear when summoned by the commission to defend themselves and had, instead of defending themselves, been working towards securing soft landing.
