Native Doctor Docked For Alleged N13.5m Scam

A 45-year-old native doctor,Kehinde Kayode, was on Thursday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Courtin Ogun, for allegedly defrauding his client,Muritala Opakunle, of N13.5 million.


Kayode, who lives at No. 8 Surulere St., Ikoye-Oke Matogun town, in Ifo, Ogun, is standing trial on a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence, defrauding and conspiracy.



The prosecutor,Sgt. Ebibomino Itaita, told the court that the accused and others at large, committed the offences on December 10th, 2014, at No. 8 Surulere St., Ikoye-Oke Matogun town, Ifo, Ogun.


Itaita alleged that the accused collected N13.5million under false pretences from Opakunle with the promise to help him solve his spiritual problems


He said that the accused did not fulfil the agreement and refused to return the money to Opakunle. Itaita said that the accused contravened Sections 390(9) 409 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.


The Chief Magistrate,Funke Odubanjo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum.


Odubanjo said that one of the sureties must be owner of developed landed property within the magisterial district.

She said that the sureties must show evidence of identification, such as the national identity card, driver’s licence or International passport.



She said that the sureties should provide evidence of one year tax clearance payment and the addresses of the sureties should be verified by the police.


The case was adjourned till June 15 for hearing.
