3 Brothers Docked For Alleged N6.2m Theft, Forgery

Three brothers, in their sixties, were on Wednesday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly forging a document and stealing N6.2 million.


The accused, Awolowo Akinjole, 68; Oluwole Akinjole, 64; and Ireti Akinjole, 60, are standing trial on a three-count charge of stealing, conspiracy and forgery.


The Prosecutor, Mr Oluwole Idowu, told the court that the accused committed the offences between 2006 and 2014 in Lagos.

According to him, the accused conspired and stole N6.2 million being rents collected from tenants living in a house belonging to one Amos Omotere and the Akinjole family.


He gave the address of the property as No. 54, Idowu St., Olodi-Apapa.


The prosecutor said the accused allegedly forged a Deed of Assignment of a property situated at No. 15, White House St., Aja Ileye, Lagos, belonging to the Akinjoles.


“The accused forged the document with the intent to defraud an unsuspecting buyer.’’


The offences, he noted, contravened Sections 285, 363 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.


The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be sentenced to a minimum of three years imprisonment each on conviction.


Counsel to the accused Mr Emmanuel Banney, urged the court to grant them bail on liberal terms.


In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs I. O. Omotoso, admitted them to bail of N300, 000 each with one surety each.


She said the sureties must be blood relations of the accused while their addresses must be verified.


The case has been adjourned to April 27 for mention. (NAN)
