Police Arrest Hoodlums For Electoral Offences In Lagos

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Aderanti, has said some hoodlums were arrested for allegedly disrupting the electoral process during the governorship and House of Assembly polls in the state.


Aderanti said this while addressing journalists during a visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos, Mr Akin Orebiyi.


He, however, declined to give the number of arrests made, but simply said the police had commenced interrogation of the suspects.


The News Agency of Nigeria reported on Sunday that Aderanti said the arrested individuals were involved in electoral offences.

He said, “We have made some arrests and we are trying to look into it. To me, the election is reasonably good if compared with what has been happening in the past. We have started interrogating the suspects.”


He said the police had not recorded any fatality in the elections.


Aderanti commended the officers of the command, INEC and also the people of the state for their peaceful conduct.


He said the comportment of the politicians was above average.


Meanwhile, voters have continued to commend INEC for its performance in the elections.


The mother of the Vice President-elect, Mrs. Olubisi Osinbajo, expressed satisfaction on the effective operation of the card readers and the Permanent Voter Cards used for the elections.


Osinbajo made the commendation in an interview with NAN at Ward J, Unit 003, Adembambo/Jolaosho Street, Gbagada Phase 1, Obanikoro, Shomolu Local Government Area, constituency 2, Lagos.


She said the card reader worked very well and she thanked God for the success of the elections.


Osinbajo said with the change in government at the federal level, something great was about to happen in the country.


Mr. Joshua Akila, a Peoples Democratic Party agent, in the same vein, commended INEC officials for arriving early at the polling stations.


A student, Miss Seyi Omotosho, commended the conduct of residents in Badagry.


She said, “Unlike other parts of the country, where violence was experienced, it has been really peaceful here and the security agencies must be commended for this.


“People conducted themselves in orderly manner and this should be emulated all over the country.”


Another voter, Mr. Audu, Aliu commended the officials of INEC for their for improved voting process.


“The officials of INEC must be commended because they arrived early and the whole process was quick, almost hitch-free and this prevented unnecessary tension,” he said.
