Unauthorised journey’ll attract sanction — NYSC DG warns corps members

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed has warned corps members in Kaduna that unauthorised journeys would attract sanctions as enshrined in the scheme’s Acts.

While addressing the 2023 Batch “A” stream “I” corps members, who were having their orientation programme at the temporary orientation camp, Government College, Kurmin Mashi, Kaduna, the DG warned the corps members to avoid political arguments before, during and after the February 25 and March 11 elections.

Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed warned them against political bias and also advised the corps members not to embark on unauthorised journeys, as doing so could undermine their own security.

“Corps members, especially those that will be engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission as ad-hoc staff to remain unbiased electoral officers in line with the provision of the amended 2022 electoral laws”

Ahmed said his administration would continue to ensure that corps members enjoyed improved welfare and security.

According to him, the contents of the NYSC Bye-Laws would be applied to every infraction and therefore, corps members must conduct themselves within the provisions of the law.

“It is a thing of pride to serve your fatherland, but don’t risk your lives via unauthorised journeys. Be disciplined and prayerful. Also, be confident of yourselves, do your work diligently and I assure you, nothing bad will happen to you.

“Avoid crime, obey the rules and regulations in the camp, and respect your leaders,” he advised

Earlier, in his camp situation report, the State’s Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Agbor Obim, said a total of 1,077 corps members, comprising 407 males and 679 females were registered in the camp.

He said the corps members were participating fully in camp activities and listed some of the challenges including the high cost of goods and services, hike in the price of fuel, and inadequate accommodation, among others.
