Chelsea to build US-inspired Hall of Fame

Chelsea are heading down the road of creating a ‘Hall of Fame’ to honour legends of the club.

It is an idea clearly inspired by American sports, which will come as no big shock given the ownership structure at Stamford Bridge.

Co-owner and chairman Todd Boehly, of course, already co-owns the LA Dodgers and LA Sparks, two of the biggest and most recognisable brands within their respective sports.

The Evening Standard reports that Boehly specifically wants to ‘expand Chelsea's operations beyond the traditional remit of an English football club’.

It is expected that the club will add a number of former players to a ‘Hall of Fame’, as well as pushing forwards with ‘Legends’ matches. The Blues want to grow their current group of 12 ambassadors and are targeting two Legends games each year – one home, one away.

There are also plans for a Legends section in the newly expanded club museum at Stamford Bridge.

Beyond plans for the Legends side of the club, Chelsea are also seeking to drive marketability of age-limited football and start selling out matches in Premier League 2 and at under-18 level.
