Sign The Petition To Ensure Soludo Completes Otuocha And Water Schemes!

Clean and safe drinking water is essential for the health and well-being of all individuals. It is a basic human right, yet for the people of Onitsha and Anambra East Local Government Area, access to clean and safe water has been a struggle. The Onitsha Water Scheme and the Otuocha Water Scheme were both initiated to provide access to clean and safe water for over 1.4 million and one million people respectively, but due to delays and mismanagement, the projects have yet to be completed.

The Onitsha Water Scheme was initiated in 1981 with funding from the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and was initially planned to be completed by 2020. However, the project is still ongoing and has yet to be completed, resulting in the people of Onitsha facing serious health risks and struggling to survive without access to clean, safe water. The lack of a functional Onitsha Water Scheme not only affects the health of the people but also hinders the economic development and sustainability of the region by not providing access to safe water which is essential for agricultural production and other economic activities.

The Otuocha Water Scheme, on the other hand, was co-funded by the Anambra State Government in partnership with the European Union's Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Programme, and was inaugurated by Governor Willie Obiano in May 2020. This scheme is expected to benefit over one million people living in Anambra East Local Government Area, including the communities of Aguleri, Umueri, and Umu-Otuocha.

Unfortunately, the lack of access to clean and safe drinking water in the area has already taken a toll on the community with reports of people suffering from illnesses and even death due to contaminated water, and forced to spend large amounts of money on accessing safe drinking water from private sources, while others have been forced to migrate to other areas in search of water.

Charles Soludo, in his manifesto document, has promised to complete both the Onitsha Water Scheme and Otuocha Water Scheme in 12 months but it's 10 months and nothing has started. It is crucial for Charles Soludo to keep his promise and ensure that the people of Onitsha and Anambra East Local Government Area have access to clean, safe water. We urge citizens to sign a petition to hold Soludo accountable to his promise and demand the completion of the Onitsha and Otuocha Water Schemes.

We cannot wait any longer for the completion of these vital projects. The people of Onitsha and Anambra East Local Government Area deserve access to clean, safe water, and it is our responsibility to ensure that they receive it.
