Early Life

Darwin Nunez was born Darwin Gabriel Nunez Ribeiro on June 24, 1999, in Artigas, Uruguay.

Career

Nunez began his football career at the youth level with Penarol before he was promoted to the senior team. He made his first team debut in the Primera Division in a 2-1 loss against River Plate Montevideo, on November 22, 2017. He scored his first professional goal in 2-0 win against Fenix, on October 13, 2018.

He signed a five-year deal with the Spanish club Almeria on August 29, 2019, for a transfer fee of $4.5 million plus $1.5 million in variables. He played his first match for the club in a 4-2 defeat against Sporting de Gijon, and scored his first goal for the club in a 3-2 win Extremadura.

He signed a five-year contract with the Portuguese club Benfica on September 4, 2020, and made his debut for the club in a 2-1 loss against PAOK. During his time there, he won the Primeira League Player of the Year: 2021-22, and Primeira Liga Forward of the Month: in September 2021.

Nunez signed for Liverpool on June 13, 2022, for a transfer fee of €75 million plus €25 million in add-ons. He made his debut in the 3-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Community Shield. He scored his first league goal in a 1-1 draw against Fulham.

Nunez has represented Uruguay at the Under20, and U22 levels before being called up to the senior team for friendlies against Costa Rica and the United States in September 2019. He made his international debut in a 1-1 draw with Peru, on October 16.
