It was confirmed on December 29 that the Brazilian footballing icon had passed away at the age of 82 following a long battle with illness.

Tributes flooded in from around the world, both in football and away from the game, honouring the man who many consider the greatest of all time.

The Premier League's tribute to Pele will take place this coming weekend throughout gameweek 18, with the plans confirmed via their official Twitter account.

"In tribute to Pele, Premier League clubs will remember his contribution to football during Matchweek 18 (Dec 30-Jan 1) by holding a minute’s applause prior to kick-offs. Players and match officials will wear black armbands."

EFL fixtures played in the time since his death was confirmed also paid tribute in similar fashion. A full schedule of Championship fixtures took place on December 29, with clubs across the division paying their respects with a minute's silence before their respective kick-offs.

Pele led Brazil to three World Cup crowns and remains the only player to have lifted the trophy three times, while also reportedly scoring over 1200 goals throughout his illustrious 21-year playing career.
