Facebook Vows to Reduce "Promotional Pages' Posts" on News Feed
Facebook Vows to Reduce "Promotional Pages' Posts" on News Feed
Starting next year, brands have to pay up or shut up
The social network announced the changes in a blog post on Friday, as it takes another step to declutter the News Feed.
We’re not talking official businesses and individual ads; we’re talking the overly promotional status updates that come from pages you like.
That includes posts that promote a product or app, push people to enter promotions and sweepstakes with no real context and those that reuse the same content from ads.
Of course, if the ads are paid for then Facebook will back off.
The changes come after a Facebook survey asked 500,000 users how the News Feed can be improved, which showed that people want to see more of their friends' status updates and less promotional content.
