Roberto Martinez reacts to Belgium's 2-0 loss to Morocco

Roberto Martinez played down the severity of Belgium's 2-0 defeat to Morocco after the match, assuring reporters and fans that "that's what happens at the World Cup."

Martinez's side hardly impressed in their opening match of the tournament, beating Canada 1-0 but being very much second-best to their opponents throughout.

They weren't any better against Morocco and couldn't even get a result this time around, losing 2-0 to the African side.

Their future is still in their own hands, with a win against Croatia guaranteed to take them through to the Round of 16, but their poor performances are a cause for concern.

In both of their first two games, they created fewer chances than opponents they were expected to beat comfortably and looked devoid of ideas going forward.

However, while Martinez admits they need to improve, he isn't too worried just yet, saying such upsets happen in World Cups.

"Well it's a difficult result," he said after the defeat to Morocco.

"Obviously the first goal affected, a lot, the outcome. It's a dead-ball situation and at that point, we couldn't get our game going.

"It's a game that we need to understand and we need to be together and we need to react in the next game.

"That's what happens at the World Cup."

Belgium's final match won't be an easy one as they take on 2018 finalists, Croatia, and anything less than a win could well see their Golden Generation fall at the first hurdle in what will most likely be their final major tournament together.
