Doja Cat: Biogaraphy

Her mother, Deborah Sawyer, is an Ashkenazi Jewish American graphic designer, and her father, Dumisani Dlamini, is a South African performer of Zulu descent best known for playing Crocodile in the original Broadway cast of Sarafina! and the 1992 film adaptation. After meeting in New York City, where Dumisani was performing on Broadway, the two had a brief relationship, but he was too busy on tour to spend time with Amala and her brother. Her father has refuted these allegations, claiming that he and his daughter have a “good” connection and that her management company tried to obstruct all of his attempts to reach her out of fear of losing her.

Dlamini relocated from Tarzana to Rye, New York, shortly after her birth, where she resided for five years with her maternal grandmother, a Jewish architect and painter. Dlamini relocated to the Sai Anantam Ashram, a commune in the Santa Monica mountains, with her mother and brother when she was eight years old, and followed Hinduism for four years. Alice Coltrane, an American jazz musician, was the commune’s swami and founder (known by the Sanskrit name Turiyasangitananda).

As she grew older and moved away from the ashram, she began taking breakdancing classes and eventually joined a professional poplocking company, with whom she performed in dance fights all around Los Angeles while still in high school. Dlamini’s aunt, a vocal teacher, had given her singing lessons to assist her audition for Central Los Angeles Area New High School #9, a Los Angeles performing arts high school. She routinely skipped class to join online chatrooms. Dlamini claims that after becoming dissatisfied with her education and professional plan, she recognized in eleventh grade that “performance and music was all [she] ever cared about.”

She eventually dropped out while in her junior year, at the age of 16. She also ties this conduct to her struggles with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), stating that “it felt like I was stuck in one spot and everbody else was progressing constantly.”

Doja Cat: Age, Height and Weight

Doja Cat was born on October 25 1995 and she is 27 years old. She is 5 feet 5 inches (1.65m) and weighs 57 kg (125 lbs).

Doja Cat: Career

The acclaimed vocalist characterizes her post-school life as “messy.” She would spend her days and nights searching the internet for information about musical beats and instruments. She obtained a large number of videos and used the content to create her own song. She learnt to rap, sing, and use GarageBand to create songs that she then uploaded to SoundCloud.

Her current stage moniker, Doja Cat, is based on a character in the film Archangel. The singer also mentions that the moniker was inspired by her love for marij*ana at the time.

Purrr!, her debut EP, was published in 2014. That included the massively popular track So High. Following the release, more singles were released. No Police, Nunchucks, and Mooo! are among the most popular. The success of these singles inspired Doja to go further.

In 2018, she released her debut studio album, Amala. The album featured songs from several genres, including pop, R&B, and hip-hop.
