Tammy Ivo, a thirty-six-year-old is currently battling for life. She is a patient of End Stage Kidney Disease. A mother of two, Tammy was diagnosed last year with Chronic Kidney Disease Stage V.

According to Vanguard, she is currently helpless and confined to her sick bed at Alimosho General Hospital, Lagos and unable to perform her duties as mother and wife.

Her husband, Francis, has been running from pillar to post in the effort to care for and also cater for the family. He recalled that Tammy’s predicament began middle of the year 2016 when she developed malaria and fever.

“I took her to the hospital in which after several tests they discovered that her PCV was only 20 per cent and they suggested I took her to General Hospital for further clarification.”
“At the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, they discovered her blood pressure was high. From there we went to Gbagada General Hospital where we were referred to Lagos Island General Hospital where my wife was diagnosed with kidney failure and recommended urgent dialysis.”

Francis who hails from Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State disclosed that after dialysis, Tammy was asked to prepare for kidney transplant as the only way to preserve her life.

“I started crying, it is God in heaven that has been sustaining us. She does dialysis three times every week and I don’t have such money. My wife is from Rivers State and we have two children aged 13 and nine.
“We have been living in fear, because if she does not dialyse at the appropriate time she would be breathless. Last Sunday, she almost died before they resuscitated her.
“Francis said presently there is a donor, what remains is the money for the operation.”

In a medical report signed by the Consultant Nephrology, General Hospital Lagos, (Odan), Dr. Alagbe S.C revealed that Tammy was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease Stage V secondary to malignant hypertension and currently undergo medical treatment and haemodialysis two to three times weekly until a renal transplant can be performed.

“However on a weekly basis she needs N75,000 to for maintenance dialysis and approximately N80,000 monthly for her medication while a renal transplant ranges will cost about N10 million.“
